The Center
HAMAR Centre for Socio-Economic and Environmental Studies (H-CSES) is a non-governmental research and policy institution registered in Kenya, Bangladesh, Türkiye, Somalia, and Canada. It represents a global partnership committed to protecting the dignity of the environment and advancing knowledge for Somalia’s sustainable development.
H-CSES provides neutral, evidence-based research designed to address the complex challenges of Somalia’s development landscape. Our studies cover a broad spectrum of socio-economic and environmental issues, offering insights that guide national development strategies, donor programming, and local governance reforms. By combining rigorous analysis with a deep understanding of Somali realities, we deliver research that is both globally informed and locally relevant.
We strive to influence decision-making processes by producing high-quality, context-sensitive studies that are accessible to governments, development partners, and communities alike. Our work emphasizes collaboration, knowledge sharing, and the translation of research into practical solutions that directly impact people’s lives.
H-CSES is firmly rooted in its service to the Somali community, while at the same time engaging with international partners to ensure that Somalia’s priorities are connected to broader global debates on development, governance, and environmental sustainability. Through this approach, we contribute to building a resilient and sustainable future for Somalia and its people.
